finger lickin' good

Here is my newest creation: Halloween Cookie Fingers

I planned to make these along with Ghost Meringues, which didn't turn out as expected. So I created these yesterday, 4 days late from Holloween.

The recipe I used came from Asda monthly/seasonal magazine. The process was easy and the cookies turned out quite well. It tasted cheesy however, a bit dry.

Also, I thought they didn't look like fingers but my sister definitely did, that she even said she was scared to eat them because they looked terrifying.

Polvorons

Few weeks ago, I made some *polvorons because my mom and sister asked me to make some; I don't have the slightest clue why, but my sister started it all, she must've seen a picture from Tumblr. When she started asking me, my mom followed her then and so I tried it.

I found a recipe from Google, the recipe, I presume, was written by a fellow Filipino as she mentioned going back to the Philippines. It was really easy but time consuming when moulding it, if you don't own polvoron moulder like I do. You could use a measuring spoon or small measuring cup like I did, or anything you think can mould them. The moulds can break easily, so if you are a perfectionist, you may have to do them again but if not, then its less time wasted.

The polvorons turned out good, but could be better because the flour was a bit burned so it had a slight taste of burn but it still worked out with the other flavours.

*Polvoron - is a type of Andalusian (a community of Spain) shortbread made with flour, sugar, milk and nuts

pasta machine

For this years Year 11 Food Technology coursework, we were assigned to design and create a fresh pasta dish. Because of this coursework, I decided to buy myself a second hand pasta maker machine to practice how to make fresh pasta and practice doing pasta dishes at home.

The pasta machine only cuts 3 pasta shapes: tagliatelle, spaghetti and ravioli. I think that this is the perfect machine for me as I am just a beginner and if it would've cut more than 3 or 4 shapes, I would've found it extremely difficult and confusing but of course I wouldn't mind one that cuts a lot later on when I am definitely familiar with the machine.

I haven't used the machine just yet but I have tested it by rolling the handle and I found out that the handle jerks at the first 4 widest settings and I dont know why but I hope that when a pasta dough runs past it, it will work alright.

A pasta machine book also came with the item when I bought it and this I hope will guide me and help me with my first pasta dishes.

The machine should help me produce a good pasta dish at the end of Year 11 after I have practiced making dishes with it and since its the reason why I bought it in the first place.

chocolate indulgence

With a load of free time and inspiration, I decided to one day re-do my failed cupcakes due to lack of colour. I followed
Jawo's recipe for cupcake and icing but changed the main icing ingredient from cream cheese to chocolate to create this chocolate indulgence cupcakes.

With limited garnishing ingredients, I decided to use chocolate sprinkles and peanuts; classic cupcake decorators.

The cupcakes turned out better than the first ones I created however, like the first ones they are still a bit dry and so another trial seems to be echoing in my head.

Pearl Tea

My 1st ever Pearl Tea that I have been wanting ever since I saw it from a Taiwanese drama I watched, because of how the actor of the drama loved the tea so much, it made me want to taste it aswell. Going past China Town I didn't hesitate and decided to get it straight away.

The drink was exactly how it's named; it was made from tea with milk and pearls. The drink was not how I expected it, it was a little bit more bitter unlike how a normal sweet tea is like, on the other hand, the pearls were gorgeous; they were like the pearls put inside a Zagu flavoured drink I use to buy in the Philippines and tasting it again just eased my craving for a Zagu drink.

All in all, the pearl tea was a new taste for my buds and was totally a new exotic experience even though it wasn't really bought from China, I still felt like I was there after I tasted the famous Pearl Tea Chinese people always want.
