The Irish Pub

The Irish Pub

Second Day in Paris for our short holiday and we dined in a restaurant called 'The Irish Pub' near our hotel by the marina. The funny thing is the restaurant has an English (well Irish) name but the menu and the waiters cannot speak any english at all.

But aside from that, the food was great and so is the service despite the language barrier. The menu mostly consisted of filling food like burgers, steaks, sandwiches, etc.

We ordered burger, sandwich and my dad ordered a crepe meal which had salad and all sorts of accompaniments with it. The food was really filling but we didn't stop there, we shared desserts of ice cream with cream and chocolate sauce and banana split.

From having the banana split, it made me want to create my own back here at home and I shall do it soon when I can.

More food updates later :)

La Cour De La Huchette

La Cour De La Huchette

This week, me and my family went to Paris for a short holiday for the 3rd time and along great company and great city comes great food.

We dined at nice restaurants and had amazing food that certainly fuelled us up ready for the excursions of the day.

Here is the first of the restaurants which is called 'La Cour de la Huchette' in English 'The Court of Huchette' and 'Huchette' being one of the oldest streets of Paris.

The restaurant was really nice and had a really nice atmosphere where there is an outdoor restaurant which is like a greenhouse because of the roofing being clear and there were plants running along the walls and stone walls. The tables also had flower setting in the centre and the room was just so bright and vibrant.

On to the menu, the menu was really varied, there was pizza, pasta, meat, fish, frog legs and even snail dishes. My sister and her boyfriend shared a pizza dish which had ham, olives and mushrooms as toppings (very Italian-like). They also had snails or 'escargos' as the French say it as starters. I'm not really a big fan on snails as they are or as food, I just think they are slimy but I must say from what my sister and her boyfriend have said about the snails, it must be really good. They were served with garlic butter sauce which gave them their flavour and also served in their shells for presentation.

For my starter, I had ham platter with salad and gherkins. There were two types of ham on the platter one is cured and one is regular ham. I'm also not a big fan of gherkins so I left that but out.
The main, on the other hand, was not only appetising but also very delicious. It was beef cooked in red wine served with potato layer bake, braised rice with tomato sauce and salad.
It was a really good balance with the texture and taste. From the softness of the potatoes and rice to the tender beef and crunchy salad.

This restaurant and it's food were really satisfactory and in my opinion really worth the cost. I really recommend it if even you visit the city of Paris.

More travel food from this holiday and this majestic city in later posts.

Chocolate sponge cake in chocolate sauce

Chocolate sponge cakes with chocolate sauce and bananas that we had to create in college last Monday except the bananas of course. I added that and the chocolate sprinkles and icing sugar for the pictures.

I love chocolate and hopefully tomorrow, we'll be making these again so I can have more of it :)

American Garni, Raw Beef, Lasagne and Chicken

Hello there folks, here's the next lot of the food we had on our 2nd day or should I say 1st day because we arrived during night time in Belgium.

Anyway during our 2nd day we just pretty much wandered around Brussels like what tourists do. We stopped at a restaurant just where the Grand Place was and there were actually quite a few rows of restaurants next to each other although they were all pretty packed. We were actually quite lucky we found this restaurant that had sits available since it was also lunch hour so it was extra busy.

So for the food, my sister ordered lasagne which basically is what she orders all the time or if not that then any other pasta option (you know you do sis :D). I ordered something called American Garni and I didn't have a clue what it was but I was just expanding my food comfort zone so I just ordered anything that sounded appetising and I thought this would've been something like chicken wings or a burger 'cause I think those foods are quite American but nope. What I got was potato salad with rocket leaves, carrot and lettuce salad and corn-beef-looking food mash.

The overall taste of what I ordered wasn't bad, the potato salad was really good especially for someone like me who doesn't really like potato salad in general. Surprisingly I liked this one. However, I didn't know what the mash was called and what's even in it but it was alright anyway although I got bored of the taste afterwards and just left it.

My mother ordered beef but she didn't know that she was ordering raw beef and was quite shocked when she got it. But it surprisedher because she liked it but she said she wouldn't order it again if given the choice. My sister liked it as well but I didn't because of the olives. The beef didn't taste raw on the other hand which is surprising.

Finally my dad had chicken in some sort of cheese sauce that looked like mild curry looking to me but it was good as I had a taste.

That's it for that food batch. Stay tuned for the next food post.

Beef balls, frog legs & coconut juice

Hello there guys. Sorry to be a stranger and not have blogged for a very very long time. After my holiday with my family to Belgium and France, college re-started and I started going to the gym everyday and then I also have to work for my mother so I couldn't find the time to juggle between blogging on both my blogs.

But as part of my new years resolution to blog more, here I am blogging for the first time on this blog in the year 2012. I hope you understand why it's so late though.

Anyway, these pictures above are just a snippet of the food we had in Brussels, Belgium during our first night there.

I had beef ball soup with vegetables, which in my opinion sort of tasted like soap and the beef balls were a bit hard. I then had frog legs for the very first time. It had vegetables with it. I thought I'd try it for the first time since I've also decided to expand my food comfort zone and be more adventurous if I want to be a chef, I need to have tried different things.

So, the frog legs didn't taste of chicken, as most people have said it did. For me it tasted bland despite the sauce and the vegetables with it
Link but overall it was alright.

I had coconut juice as well, which was lovely as I haven't had coconut juice in such a long time and it also had fresh coconuts in it which made it extra appealing and amazing. Maybe I will find a coconut juice somehow here in England but I doubt that that'd be easy, I still challenge myself.

So for now, I leave you with this pictures and the next post will be the next lot of food we had during our trip so stay tuned.
